On Sunday mother would pin a white rose on for Mother's Day.
Then she would put a red rose on our dress.
White for a Mother that was gone and red for a Mother that was living.
Mother's Day was created by Anna Jarvis in 1908
It was in years before the Civil War started as Mother's Day
Work Clubs to teach local woman how to properly care for
their children.
It official in U.S.a holiday in 1914, Jarvis would later denounce
the holiday's commercialization and spent the latter part of her
life trying to remove it from the calendar.

We had that tradition only with carnatians. It's a nice one...kind of depressing when the color goes to white, though.

We walked to church on Mother's Day and stopped at grandmother's to cut a rose for our dresses. Such a sweet remembrance.
