Remembering

Mildred over at Mildred's Menagerie got me to thinking about the late 40's and 50's.

She was posting about lunch at Woolworth's. My mother and I would go up town or was it downtown? We went on the street car, in Memphis Tn. She was dressed in her little white gloves and a hat. We made a day of shopping and had lunch at Woolworth's lunch counter. Some time we went to the White Castle restaurant on second street for those little hamburgers.

On Sunday at Church all of the Lady's had there hat and gloves on.

Even in the movies they had little white gloves on.

I remember wearing white gloves on Easter Sundays when I was a little girl. Also I wore a hat and carried a little purse. Mother always made us the prettiest dresses.

I just love this post, Patsy! My Aunt Ida took me to Lexington and Louisville shopping when I was a little girl. She always wore her hat and gloves and I wore my Sunday best. We would lunch at the cafe at Stewart's Dept. Store or Blue Boar Cafeteria in Louisville.

... and how Mother would say 'don't get them dirty' ... now HOW ON EARTH can you ever keep white gloves clean! Chuckle! Oh, yes, this brings back memories. Whatever happened to prim, proper & pretty?

Hugs, Marydon

It's one of the things I miss, hats and gloves.
Wearing a hat is still a "must do" if you are attending a wedding in England. Those kids may have IPods stuck to their ears, but they still wear a hat to a wedding.
My grandma had the most hats I had ever seen, each had it's own box, neatly labeled.
Mmmm.

Patsy,
Loved your post as brought back memories. I can remember when I went off to college in the early 60' having a little quilted box with dress gloves for church.....oh how times have changed. Actually I like not dressing up so much as hate panty hose. Along with the hats and gloves we had on girdles and nylons. So glad we don't have to wear those anymore.....as always, a good post.
