A First For Me

I was working in my garden pulling out the spent Vinca's getting ready to put in the Pansy
that winter over for a big spring show. When this came marching across the side walk. I looked and said What is that?
The Bennie said it is a big Red Velvet Ant, well it was a Female Red Velvet Wasp.
This with out the black is the ant. They have a painful sting and feed on nectar in the garden.
So watch out and don't get sting working in the flowers.

The red color is sure bold and makes a statement, but it's ugly. :) Great photo though.

That looks scary!

My husband's grandmother used to say they were deadly !
I'm sure their bite is especially painful.

I have never seen anything like that before. I'm so glad you didn't get stung.

Wow! I think the wasp is prettier than the ant. So startling I am sure seeing something that bright red!

Crumbs, I'd run a mile if I saw that.

Looks like something out of the film Ants or was it a Bug's Life?
