We have Garden Spiders with stitch web's also call Writing spider or Corn spider.

Like other members of the Argiope they are harmless to humans. They are eating the grasshoppers that have eaten my plants.SOoooo hot and dry here, no fun to be out side.

I know how you feel, the same here although I did spend 2 hours watering out back today. Will do the front tomorrow. It's awful. Great photo you captured of that ugly thing. :)

I saw one of these spiders in our last garden. Spooky looking even if they are harmless to me!!!

I find them fascinating at a distance. LOL! I would rather see them than a snake though to be honest.
I wish I could have sent you some of the rain we got. It was a gully washer. We had another storm last night but not four inches of it.
Stay cool.

We had two make webs outside our kitchen window. We didn't know what they were so we called them "zipper" spiders because the middle of the web reminded us of zippers. They stayed all summer and we enjoyed watching them. I know a lot of people would have removed their webs as soon as they appeared. I guess we are odd but we enjoyed them.
