I Found My Uncle

I have been on a long quest to find my great great grandmother's brother's and sister's and this is the baby of her family. This is Greenbush Cemetery Lafayette, Indiana:
This is the headstone of Civil War 32nd Regiment of Tennessee Volunteer Infantry and my great, great, grand Uncle Dempsey Ashford.

Dempsey Ashford was born in North Carolina on the 15 of Dec 1837 the last child of 13 children. He moved with his family to Giles Co. Tennessee in 1841. He worked on his father's cotton farm at age 22 he joined the Tennessee Volunteer Infantry . Records indicate that he was taken prisoner and died in captivity early in 1862. His brother was also in the prison camp, Osborn Ashford he survived the war and prison.

I am excited for you that you found this information. I'm sitting here right now with copy of a great uncle's 1974 will trying to put together some family facts.

G'day Sweet Patsy ~ Isn't it wonderful after searching what seems like forever, to fine a relative. We've been doing this for 30 years & the 'hunt' is the best part of the family tree.

I am happy you now have another 'limb' on your tree.

Huggers of love, sweet friend.
Happy spring.
Have a beautiful week.

How cool that you found his gravesite. I think I may have some relatives in that cemetery also. I have a lot of family from Indiana on my father's side and that cemtery sounds familiar to me.

How exciting, I'm sure it made your heart race standing beside his headstone.
He was such a young man when he died ;(
It sounds as if he truly believed in what he fought for.

For those who don't know.... genealogy is hard work and at time very frustrating. And, then you find that 'lost link' and it's like opening gifts on a Christmas morning. So, I know you are more than thrilled, Patsy.
