| This got me to thinking about when I saw Harry S. Truman. It was October 6 1945, I was 6 years old and my grandfather took me to see The President of the United States. (It made a big impression on me for life and I love to study the history of this country) It was in Blytheville Arkansas- there was a big army base in Blytheville and he flew in and made a visit/stopover on his way to Missouri. Living with the army base in Blytheville we were very patriotic to this Republic of the United States of America. Did you know that Truman faced many challenges in domestic affairs? The disorderly postwar reconversion of the economy of the United States was marked by confounded to win election in 1948, helped by his famous Whistle Stop Tour of rural America. After his election, he passed only one of the proposals in his liberal Fair Deal program. He used executive orders to end racial discrimination in the armed forces and created loyalty checks that dismissed thousands of communist supporters from office. |

I thought what I read about him was interesting. I didn't know he was born in Lamar, Missouri which stood out to me as we are from Lamar, Arkansas. Sure wouldn't have wanted to be President during that era.
BTW..Sam turned 63 this month
I had guessed 65, I think when I saw Rita's post. How interesting that you saw him! I think my Mom did also but may have been a little older than 6. Not sure.
