We did a side trip to the Powhatan History State Park. This was setting right on the Black River in Lawrence County Arkansas and had flooded these building many times over the years. There is also a new building of Northeast Arkansas Archives which had lots of info on my Great great grandfather and his two brothers that came here in 1800's from North Carolina, some had what they called improvment of government land for possession.
If you enlarge you can read about the hanging judge and the jail.

The town well

This is the old phone exchange building and it had the floor out because of this years flood.

A one room log house with a loft for sleeping with a rain barrel

Look at the little window in the loft

This was a school boys and girls

This is the jail.

Love the old building. They have such a story to tell (if they could talk,)

So many interesting historical places & things. We got to tour two log cabins our local historical society sponsor. One is done and the other a work in progress. As bare as it would seem to live in one large room with a loft, it was homey feeling. glad you went to meet 'Nan'.
