It excites them because it contains a chemical that resembles an excretion of the dominant females urine.

Hum, I wondered why they were drawn to catnip plants but I never really looked it up. You are teaching me Patsy.LOL!
It sets off Pheromones ! A Hormone All animals and humans have, it attracts one another in one way or an other .Great info thanx made me look it up I was intreaged ! Have a good day !
My cats smelled the mint from our backyard on our hands and they reacted to it like catnip too!
