I hope you and Mr. The Bennie are well and warm this frosty day! I've missed you, and hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving.
Right before Halloween, I glanced out the front door and saw a couple of neighbor ladies talking in the street, looking up, looking up. I went out, as did several other neighbors, and they pointed to a big gray shape atop the big lamp pole across from us.
I could make out a definite buzzard-shape, with that hunched neck and almost turkey-head, but they kept saying HAWK.
It swooped over onto our side, landed on the next-door eaves, then glided on down, where it began to have lunch of whatever was lying in the street.
Yours has the straight-owl posture of a hawk, but ours had WIDE wings and a long neck.
And besides, ROADKILL.
And isn't THAT a delightful Subject of the Season? Excuse my manners. And glad you're back.
That looks like a picture from 'Jane Eyre' (sorry I can't spell this morning)....lonely landscape yet beautiful in its way. I would stay in if I were a mouse and saw that hunter in the tree!
That's a fine picture of a lone hunter. The other critters must be agitated all the time!
ReplyDeleteIt is amazing how the birds scatter when a predator bird flies over my feeder. I had a hawk last year that sent everyone fleeing.
