The Louisiana Iris are fast growing, late spring blooming irises that do well in heavy clay soils.
And believe me we have heavy clay here in Arkansas. When I was little child back in the 40's we called it black gumbo and it would get so dry and hard you could maybe build a house with it. We went barefoot out on the farm and grand mother made us soak our feet in a tub out under the pump before she let us in the house. When we plant anything you have to dig the clay out and put lots of sand and compost . Happy spring planting!

ReplyDeleteI have an iris just like this in my front flower bed. My friends from work gave it to me the day I retired. It is blooming very well right now.

The Louisianas are just starting to bloom well along the Gulf Coast, about two weeks behind schedule. The cool nights seem finally to be over. I guess your bloom is still a few weeks off. Hope it is a great season.
