Did you Know

We are having a new moon on Sunday 28 February 2010. The Native American name for the February Moon is Snow Moon, Hunger Moon, Open Bud Moon.
There is almost no atmosphere on the moon. No wind or water erosion. The moon's surface is about the same now as it was 3 billion years ago. The Astronaut's footprints remain unchanged on the moon's surface. There foot prints should last at least 10 million years.

Some Thing I Have

been trying to do for a year. This quilt had to be taken apart. I quilted it by hand and the knots just pulled out. I got so tired of repairing it that it got put away (I will think about it some other day.) And months passed. I called the quilt shop and ask about them machine quilting it . They said I had to take out all of the quilting. That was no easy thing or quick thing to do. BUT IT IS DONE.
What did I do wrong ? I feel like a failure.

Collars for Sweaters

This was made by mother for me to wear with a dress or sweater. I guess it was the last thing she ever crocheted for me. Just look at that sweet button. It has been put up with things remembered about my mother, I don't think I ever wore it, they were out of style when she made this and I didn't do sweater then. Some time in the late 70's.
This was angora so soft, I think made from rabbit.

This was a Battenburg Lace Collar

Remembering

Mildred over at Mildred's Menagerie got me to thinking about the late 40's and 50's.

She was posting about lunch at Woolworth's. My mother and I would go up town or was it downtown? We went on the street car, in Memphis Tn. She was dressed in her little white gloves and a hat. We made a day of shopping and had lunch at Woolworth's lunch counter. Some time we went to the White Castle restaurant on second street for those little hamburgers.

On Sunday at Church all of the Lady's had there hat and gloves on.

Even in the movies they had little white gloves on.

The Calico Quilt

I have been reading Amos 4: 10 -5:5 With Thru The Bible Radio with Dr. J. Vernon McGee and this is from Poem and Quotes
Aunt Jane of Kentucky

"How much piecin' a quilt is like livin' a life. Many a time I've set and listened to Parson Page preachin' about predestination and free will and I said to myself, if I could just get up there in the pulpit with one of my quilts, I could make life a heap plainer then Parson's making it with his big words. "You see, to make a quilt, you start out with just so much calico. You'll go to the store and pick it out,n' buy it, but the neighbors give you a piece here and a piece there and you'll find you'll have a piece left over every time you cut out a dress and you just take whatever happens to come. That's predestination. "But when it comes to cutting the quilt, why, you're free to choose your own pattern. You give the same kind of pieces to two persons and one'll make a nice patch quilt and the other one'll make a wild goose chase. There'll be two quilts made of the same kind of pieces, but just as different as can be. That's the way of living.
"The Lord sends us the pieces, we can cut'em out and put them together pretty much to suit ourselves. There's a heap more in the cutting out and the sewing than there is in the calico."
-Eliza Calvert Hall, 1898

The cupcake

In the early 19th century, the name cup cake took it's name from being baked in a individual pottery cup. In Queen Victoria's afternoon Tea's they were called fairy and butterfly cakes. This one is the modern butterfly cake.
This is what I call cupcake anytime.

Meyer Lemon

The flower of the Meyer Lemon, they have been grown in California since 1940's.
The Meyer lemon is yellow and rounder then the true lemon with a slight orange tint when ripe. It has a sweeter, less acidic flavor then the more common lemon and a fragrant thin edible skin. The trees are 6 to 10 feet tall and have leaves that or dark green and shiny. The fruit was discovered outside Beijing by Frank N. Meyer, a plant explorer.
Martha Stewart likes to make a Meyer Lemon Mousse Cup. By filling them with lemon curd and whipped cream.

A New Meaning For

(Sharing)
The kids wanted to know what The Bennie was giving and getting for Valentine's Day and he said: We are getting a Share Chair

When I am away from the house mother can sit in the chair. When I come home I sit in the chair .
When I take a nap Mother can sit in the chair, when I am up I sit in the chair. They said mother where does he come up with things like that? Got to love that man.

Now don't get me wrong

I grew up in Memphis and it was a wonderful place in the 1950's. These two young people were making a hit in the Blue's world on Beale Street. Elvis Presley and others but this is about Barbara Pittman.
I didn't care much about her singing of the blue's. Her brothers and some sisters (12 in all) went to Humes High School in the same class with my sister and Elvis Presley. Her family lived in North Memphis and they were friends with the Presley's. She never received much promotion.

Barbara was my age 1938-2005. She was one of the few female singers to recorded some demos at Sun Studio, as a teenager for others. She was on tour with other performers who were popular at the time. Her most popular recording were "I Need a Man"' and "Two Young Fools in Love"
She spent time working for Lash La Rues Western Shows after that she came back to Memphis and recorded more songs. The Barbara Pittman & Elvis -Elvis Articles, By;Ken Burke tell about some very intimate things of Elvis Presley's life after they met again in Hollywood.

Old Church

These are old Church's that some of my ancestors went to: This is one of my grandpa's and grand maw's, he is holding his law book.
This is where they are buried in Tennessee. The church burned many years ago this is the new old one. 1940's The cemetery dates back to the 1800's. This is my aunt that was 100 years old in Oct 2009. Top picture is her great grand father and mother.

This old unused Church was where one of my grandpa's went to church in 1938

This one is where his father and sisters and Aunt's and Uncle's are buried in the Church yard dated 1890

Like Barbara Pittman said

I am getting better all the time: Remember her ? Now that is a future post.
I have had fever , which broke in the middle of the night now that was better then the other day and night .

All I am going to say is that it was no time to wear a Hoodie Footie.

The Bennie is better now and can sleep in the bed and not the chair.

We have had some bug that made you have Sore Throat, Coughing that came from your toes up. Chest Congestion, fever.

We can now eat Chicken Soup but we still have chosen Gatorade as our drink.
The doctor didn't want to see us, said take Tylenol cold Multi-symptom and if that didn't work come in to the office. It is working. Don't try this with out calling your doctor if you get sick.
